FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG INFLATOR
TK Holdings Inc. (“Takata”) has reported to NHTSA that certain specific front passenger air bag inflators, including inflators supplied to Infiniti, may contain a safety defect. Infiniti is not aware of any incidents related to this issue in Infiniti vehicles. However, Infiniti is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign to replace the front passenger air bag inflator on certain specific model year 2001 I30, 2002 – 2003 I35, 2002 – 2003 QX4 and 2003 FX vehicles at no charge to customers for parts or labor. Takata has issued return packaging, shipping labels, documents, and directions that must be used and followed in order to properly carry out this campaign. Takata’s documentation is attached and is part of this bulletin.
-REVISED- 2001 I30, 2002 I35; VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN TRANSVERSE LINK REPLACEMENT
Nissan Motor Ltd. has determined that some 2001 and 2002 model year Infiniti I30 and I35 vehicles may have a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety. On some vehicles there is a possibility that the attachment pin at the end of the front suspension transverse link on the left and right sides may break at the rear mounting bracket to the frame. This may cause a knocking sound and abnormal steering. This may result in difficulty controlling the vehicle which, if ignored, could cause a crash.
Infiniti has determined that some 2002-2003 model year Infiniti vehicles may have a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety. The engine might stop running while being driven if the crank position sensor or cam position sensor fails. This may also result in the “Service Engine Soon” light coming on or reduced engine power. If the engine stops running while driving, this could result in a crash without warning.
Nissan Motor Ltd. has determined that some 2002 model year Infiniti I35 vehicles may have a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety. Under usual driving conditions, the stopper for the accelerator pedal will prevent excessive movement of the accelerator position sensor. However, if the driver pushes the pedal to the stopper with overly excessive force while at the same time pushing it to the right, the pedal may “over travel” due to the design of the stopper. This could cause the engine malfunction indicator lamp to come on and the engine speed to be severely limited. If this occurs unexpectedly, it could lead to a crash.
