Default 1996 Q45 spped sensor

Glad I found this sight...a few questions if I may.
  • AutoZone diagnosis tells me to replace the 'Vehicle Speed Sensor'. This makes sense because the speedo was intermittenty working. Is this something I can handle as a decent 'shade tree' mechanic?
  • If I subscribe to this forum, will service manual download help me with the procedure?
Thanks for any comments.

It's is not difficult to replaced the speed sensor, the problem is the code may trigger by the speedometer and not the speed sensor it self. What is the code number? P0500?

The service manual can help you diagnose the problem, but there are not instructions to replaced the sensor.

Thanks for the reply...the code is P0500. Does that change anything in your opinion?

Also, would a 'Chilton's' manual give me the installation instructions?

I don't know, I have never used Chilton's manual.

No, the circuit needs to be checked to properly diagnose the problem. The P0500 could be triggered by both items.

I have attached the circuit diagram from the manual and I couldn't find a diagram with the speed sensor location, but I found an image of the transmission and I highlighted the speed sensor location.
