Because he lives in Arizona. If you check the recommended oil weight, (@ least for my car), it states above 0* to above 100* use 10w30 or 10w40.

Ever try pouring 10w40 when it's below 0*? Compare that to pouring it when it's 95*. It flows through the engine the same way until it gets hot.

Yeah, my '01 I30 was delivered new with 10w40. I was surprised also, but that's what the book calls for in Arizona. Should I switch to 10w30 or 5w30 at this stage of the game with 151,000 miles?

Hey Rick - Good luck with your I30. I'm pleased to see you're at 151,000 miles and still ticking. I bought mined used with 96,000 miles, and I'm at 103,000 miles right now. I absolutely love the car, though my SES light is on saying it may be time for a new rear catalytic converter. Eh... I know an independent guy who could do it for $500, which I'll do in a heartbeat. The car is just so smooth and quiet. But have you had any major issues with yours? The Infinti dealer here says the motor mounts 'have some play,' and I should 'keep an eye on them. They cost $800 to replace, but if they fail, they knock out the ECU with it, and it's 2-3 thousand.' Have you had to do motor mounts or anything major to get up to 150,000 miles? Thanks~

If you ever hear the mounts buzzing then unplug them and they can't harm the ecu.
