Default 2002 Q45 Sunglasses Holder

The swing-down sunglasses holder in the overhead console of my '02 Q45 has come off.

It doesn't appear that anything has broken - the sunglasses holder itself appears to have both right and left hinge pins (although they are different from each other).

Kinda of hard to describe, but it looks like the right pin on the holder is to be first inserted into the hole in the overhead console, but the pin on the left side of the holder (more of a stubby, hollow socket than a pin) has nothing to fit over. It appears that there is a white, plastic fastener of some sort immediately behind the hole on the left side of the console where it is to attach, but it doesn't stick out for the holder to snap onto.

Any interior experts out there?

Thanks,
DBB

I can't seem to pin point the sunglass holder but have a look at this illustration and see if there is a part missing.

Hard to say, but it almost looks like it could be part of assy #14.

Attached are some photos - I hope they post:

Overhead-With Holder.JPG: Overhead console with the sunglasses holder tray temporarily in place (bottom of photo is front of console).

Overhead-No Holder.JPG: Same view, without the holder. You can see the right side hinge hole in the sunglasses holder cavity.

LeftSide HingePoint.JPG: Shows the fastener-looking piece that is recessed into the left side hinge hole. Either this has become recessed, causing my problem, or there is was a piece that snapped in and onto this fastener, to which the hinge post of the sunglass holder tray was affixed. I have not found any stray pieces under the seats, floormats, etc.

Holder-LeftSide.JPG: Shows the left side hinge post of the sunglasses holder that interacts somehow with the recessed fastener mentioned above.

Holder-RightSide.JPG:
Shows the right side hinge post on the sunglass tray that fits into the hole, mentioned in the second photo description, above.

Thanks,
-DBB

Photos posted fine. I think the problem is either the left side post is stripped or the left side receptor is broken in behind the mount point. I would pull out the dome light panel and look at that.

I'll try to pull up the service manual and see if there is more info. It takes me about 15 minutes to load it.

Unfortunately there isn't much info on the sunglasses holder but these two diagrams may help. You may have to order the whole interior lamp finisher.

Thanks! These are great! I really appreciate you pulling them up for me!

When you say "finisher," your talking about the entire trim piece that includes the glasses holder?

I may give this a shot, although I'm not sure what a clip driver is or where to get one (looks like they're showing a screw driver, padded to protect the finish), but my fear is that I wouldn't be able to get them back in properly - then I *would* be hosed!

The clip driver is basically a thin flat screwdriver with a protective cover for pushing the edge of the clip to disengage it. To re-insert the piece you don't need any tools. Yes, by finisher plate I do mean the surrounding plastic piece.
