Hi all...hope someone can help me with this problem.

I followed the directions on the DIY video for throttle body cleaning, and then did Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning, Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning, Idle Air Volume Learning.

During the idle air volume learning, the rpm drops to about 600 and stays there. Idle is smooth, but when I restart the car, it goes up to about 1100, then gradually drops to about 800 -900 in about 20sec. or so. It does not seem to ever go down to the 600 that was seen in the learning process.
Is this normal? I've done the learning many times, and still the same result.

Then.....

Driving around for a half hour, I will get a SES light. Don't have a code reader, but from searching around on the topic, it seems it's due to the high idle.

Not sure if this could be the cause, but when I was re-installing the throttle body, I noticed the butterfly valve does'nt seal all the way around in the closed position. There is a small gap, approx. 0.010"-0.015" at the top and bottom. Did not notice this before I cleaned it, but then again, there was a buildup gunk (carbon?) around there when I started, so I probably would'nt have noticed it.

Help.....don't want to go to the Stealer

The throttle valve closed position learning may be difficult to complete, and sometimes you have to do it several times.

Try disconnecting the car battery for about 30 minutes and do all the process again.


Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning

1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
5. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.


Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning

1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.

Target Idle Speed

1. Run engine at about 2,000 rpm for about 2 minutes under no-load.
2. Rev engine (2,000 to 3,000 rpm) two or three times under no-load, then run engine at idle speed for about
1 minute.
3. Check idle speed.

650 ± 50 rpm (in “P” or “N” position)

Its normal to have a small gap.

Why did you clean the throttle body? did you had any problems before?

Yeah, occasionally I hear people complaining about the reset procedure - it isn't easy to get just right, but if you have a few people helping out with the timing, reading the instructions, and watching the lights on the dash, it becomes a lot easier to complete successfully. Also, I've heard from some people that simply disconnecting the battery before doing anything resolves the need to do any relearn procedures, however, I am doubtful this is the case since in the FSM it says you're always going to have to do the relearn whenever the cable to the throttle body is disconnected or the butterfly valve is moved (I think both conditions).

No problems actually. I replaced the spark plugs a couple months ago, and I noticed the TB was quite dirty, so I thought I'd give her a clean.

Update:
Its been 3 days since I had to reset the the cel. Stopped with the car in "D", it idles at around 600-650. In "P" or "N", its around 800. Looks like she'll be ok now.
