I love my car and infinit for that matter its almost 13 and has been through alot. I could never dream of selling it. 170k with original transmisson and engine but the transmission is going on me. it shifts but its not pulling. I want to get it rebuilt but I've heard somethings about that. Some people say no matter who does it it won't be the same and it won't last long and some say that's a lie so i want your professional opion and some of you guys experience. thx

I recommend not to do it. In 15 years as an Infiniti tech, I have seen many cars comeback to our shop after the transmission is been rebuild, and we end up installing a factory rebuild trans. A few years ago the factory used to rebuild the transmission in New Jersey, and even those had lots of problems, but now they rebuild the trans in Japan, the same place they build the trans.

ok i have some good news the transmission isnt completely gone and the real reason the car had blue smoke bellowing from the exhaust tips is because the bastard to much oil in the engine when he changed it(excuse my language but that just pisses me off) all he had to do it put 5 quarts and give me my car and he screwed that up but anyway i think he also may have put to much fluid in the transmission and what i was wondering is if he did could that cause it to act as if its in neutral and please say yes lol

I have Q45 too - wants to hang in drive when cold - drives great in 3rd till warm, then purrs in drive... it only has 126,000 mi. on it, so I guess I have 50,000 more to go b4 I need rebuilt transmission!

My question is, I just had brake pads changed out and my dummy light that says "brake pads worn" won't go off - I understand it's a relay that popped, but when I opened the relay box under hood, there's a bunch of em in there and of course they're not labeled.. which one do I replace? I can't find diagrams or repair manuals for this car anywhere... any help would be appreciated. Thanks...
