97 Q45 transmission fluid

I change my transmission fluid every other oil change interval. I noticed that each time, the fluid draining out varies in amount. Last time was 5 quarts, this time its 4 quarts.

Is this normal for all vehicles? Do I put in a constant 5 quarts regardless of how much fluid drains out?
