Default Aftermarket Radio Install

Was wondering if anyone has replaced the factory Bose radio in their infiniti? Mine is 2000 non anniversary model. I've heard the speakers have independent amps, do I need to bypass these amps? any other things to lookout for? I want to put in an aftermarket navigation unit

Okay even more curious question. I have decided to put in a carPC instead. Did it years ago with two other Nissan's...but that was before they sold pre-made components...so should be a cake walk now. With a carPC though you have to amp the output of the PC of course.

So the question is, are there independent amps mounted on each speaker? If so does that mean the BOSE head unit sends a very low voltage signal to each amp? My thought is if so, I could merely splice rca's on the wires leading the speakers/amps from behind the head unit and use the existing amps to power my speakers.

Any one have any answers or thoughts?

Okay so, I know another update, but I have been studying the wiring diagram to the car, and there is a amplifier that is fed to each speaker. I'm going to pull the radio out in a few days and measure the voltage coming out to the AMP. I'm hoping its essentially an umamped signal similar to RCA's. Then...I'll attempt to run the output from my laptop headphone jack to see what happens...

if anyone has tried this or can see the damage I may cause....please let me know before I blow my speakers...or amp

Sorry Dranobob but I think you're blazing new territory here with your Q. You might want to pose some of these questions in the audio video forum.

If I delete both my comments above will it delete the thread? I just don't want to double post since I posted this in the audio section

Well it is Q related and someone with a Q who has done stereo mods may check in so I think the thread should stay for now at least. If you get answers over there and this thread becomes redundant one of us can delete it no problem. I'm pretty sure you can't delete it yourself.
