Default Auto trans shifting problem 03 G35 Sedan

Serious Transmission Problems started this week; 03 G35 Sedan / Original Owner / Auto trans Fluid changed @ dealer 2x @ 30k & 60K / All servicing done by dealer & on time / Have: 75k miles & being told by dealer that I need a new transmission!!! / I took it in because of "Searching" by the auto transmission ***It Would not hit 5th gear for the Wife and she went got off interstate & it stalled in "stop and go." It restarted and drove home in okay in city. I drove 11 miles to dealer and no problems in city & hit 60 on a straight away. She drives a mix of interstate and city & a passive driver. All of this happens in auto mode (she doesn't tiptronic shift). I Rarely drive it but at 75K miles find it hard to believe the tranny is done! Quoted $5400.00 for replacement by Infinity Of Tampa Bay. I just find this too hard to believe. It seems more like an electronical problem to me. ***Any help from someone who worked on these things would be great!!*** Thanks.....

The auto transmissions have an electronic transmission control module behind the panel by the passenger's right foot. It looks like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Infin...181310004r3202 They cost about $600 list price but can be bought from online OEM parts vendors for less than $500.

The other possibility is that there is an internal transmission problem that may need replacement or repair ofthe transmission itself.

I'd take the car to a transmission or other repair shop for any non-warranty work. Infiniti labor rates are high.

I've got 66k miles on a 03G35. Every once in a while (every few weeks) it seems like auto trans "slips" for just a second and then catches. For now, I'm just monitoring to see if it continues.

Mine used to do that some. I think it may have been the torque converter, but I have not noticed it doing that in a while. Nothing bad happened.

Just keep monitoring the issue. Maybe yours will go away too.
