Default Engine tap after oil change

I will shortly be doing first oil change on an '09 G37x sedan. Plan to go with Mobil 1, in part because of a rumor that a "benign" valve noise can occur if conventional oil used? Any news/opinion about this will be most welcome.

How many miles are on it, and did it ship with dino or synthetic oil? Most people wait until about 10k miles or so on the older models to make sure the engine is broken in properly before switching but I don't think the dealership or Infiniti requires that. On my '04 I switched at 30k, have been 100% synthetic since then with no problems.

I haven't read anything about the valve tap on the G37 but lots of automotive press have called the revised engine "thrashy" compared to the VQ35.

Thanks for quick reply. Apparently there has been some history of this and dealers (under warranty) change oil to a very costly Nissan synthetic and perhaps do something to ECU. The problem, perhaps, shows up at first oil change. I do not want to start folks down the wrong road with this and best possible result would be that there is nothing to it. My car presently just crossed 5000 miles, and yes, I remember on my '03 G35 that there was a feeling to wait awhile before going to synthetic.

I have read about the new Nissan ester oil for the G37. I Googled and found this thread which may help you. It mentions the engine tap noise. http://myg37.com/forums/g37-coupe/19...formation.html

sergey and Gilley,
I will use Nissan oil filters and keep carton label as evidence I did change oil.
The link to which you referred is the sort of information that got me going on this issue. Since I am 100 miles from a dealer, anything I can do to avoid a trip down the hill is a winner. Started the thread in hopes of feedback from owner(s) who have had the issue. Thanks to both of you for input.

Speaking of oil, I overheard one of our techs today telling someone that when he changes the oil in his own car, he uses the specific grade of regular oil, minus one quart and then adds one quart of specific grade synthetic! He says (rolls eyes here) that this is all that is necessary. I never caught where he heard that but it was news to me.

Anyone else ever hear that?

Mike

and i think by rolling his eye is that its BS, i dont think its a good idea to mix regular and synthetic oil. they have synthetic blend for that which is regualr oil with synthetic in it, so why buy different oil when they have synthetic blend. i say either stay with synthetic or regular and well the synthetic blend

Actually, that was me rolling my eyes because, as you suggest, I though his idea was BS.

Default tapping after oil change

Now I have an 05 g35x and when I changed my oil for the first time owning it I noticed a tapping as well. This noise soon went away as I let the engine run, dont know why but it freaked me out. No noise since, car runs great, I just used a Fram high performance filter and 5 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic.
