Default Exterior-Cleaning

Happy with the G35 I bought last month. A couple of questions on the exterior:

->After washing car and dryed, when you run your hand over the metal its a bit course, almost like bumpy. Would it be suggested to use putty or some rubbing compound to smooth off the finish and re-wax it?

->Grille is spotty, and wondering the bext way to get it to a decent shine?

thnxs

If the paint is rough, you can use a clay bar.

Try a 50/50 water and vinegar mix on the grille to remove hard water spots. If the finish is peeling, have the grille replaced under warranty.

I wouldn't recommend clay bar, considering they have
a tendacy to harden up and the process take longer.

I like turtle wax liquid better.
And make sure you wax in some sort of shade, and not
in the sun.
Better yet, stay out of the sun when regularly washing.

If you are uncomfortable with clay barring your car have it done professionally. Generally it's going to cost you about $100 for a good clay barring only. After the clay bar treatment you can polish as required using a product like darkhorse suggests. As indicated, polishing should always be done in a shady or cool location.

My suggestion is Zaino. Use their clay bar and wax. It is the best and I would not use anything else. Clay bar is really easy to use just follow the instructions. go to Zainostore.com I have been using it for about 5 years. I used it on my porsche, g35 and my lexus. It is the best around. If you have any questions Sal Zaino will answer them personally.

Yea bummpy finish aka orange peel finish. Clay bar works real good though lots of work, but results are tip top for DIY.

If you have 'correct' equip with pro pads, buff out with fine compound (orange peel bye bye), wash/dry vehicle, then do ultra fine swirl/scratch remover, then wax = mirror smooth finish. Do a final polish compound additionally, if want super smooth mirror finish. Lots of work but looks sooo awesome.

As mentioned, never in direct sunlight or on hot surface.

I can't remember the name of the product the dealership
offered to sell before I took my g off the lot from
purchase, but the price was insane.
I believe $700 was the cost, stating it was a one time only
polish finish, the same as used for boeing air jets.

I'm skeptical something like would neccessary for only
once though

Damn, wish we lived closer I'd do this for you....it's sooooo easy. You just need to clay your car using detail spray (lots of it) following the body lines as you go. This should be done early in the AM in a garage so the sun or heat doesn't effect what you're doing. Wipe off the area you're claying as you go with a damp micro towel. After you finish apply a fresh coat of quality wax and your good to go. I've found that Griot's clay works best 800-345-5789 or www.griotsgarage.com but any clay will get the job done!
