Default What are the few things for a new owner of a used M35?

I will be picking up my M35x on Friday or Saturday. It is loaded, has everything but the 19" factory wheels.

It is uner 41K miles. Here is what I am thinking, but please add or subtract as you see fit.

I don't/wont' have a lot of 'play' or real money, so.....

New map DVD ver 7.4? I think they now selling on ebay but is it worth updating from what I assume is the original map dvd 7.0? And, can this dvd be copied? If so, anyone want to make a few bucks?

Cabin filter

That's all I can think of - Map dvd and cabin filter. I will be taking it to my regular mechanic for a full checkup to ensure that anything that may be wrong get's corrected in the first month.

Thanks!

Car has new tires and new brakes.

I'm not sure which version of nav your 06 has but it might not be 7.0. Could be 7.2 or 7.3 already. The updated version may not make that much of a difference depending on where you live and how many road and POI changes have occurred. Use the nav for a while and see if you think it needs the update. If it works fine for you save your upgrade money. If you do decide to upgrade E-bay is going to be your best bet. The discs are made by a company called Navteq for another company called Zenrin and the cost to order direct from Navteq is $190.

Congrats on the new machine!!!

Don't get the "new" 7.4 from Navteq for $190.00. The newer version (7.5?) should be out shortly and then E-Bay will have a bunch of 7.4's (mine included) for sale, after 7.5 makes its debut. So far there are no 7.4's for sale on E-Bay. Wait until there are a glut of them; it'll cost you even less.

Enjoy your M!!

Also make sure you take yours in for any warranty repairs as soon as you hear any noises or see anything that you can tie in to warranty (if it still has one). I just bought mines two months ago and had to take it in this month for a steering rack warranty repair because it would make a grinding noise when I would make a right turn. Got it fixed just in time before warranty expired at the end of the month. Just some advice. Infiniti parts aren’t cheap! Enjoy the toy.

I agree regarding warranty repairs... My vehicle had 33K miles and was an off lease that was used as a loaner for a couple of months. I bought the car this past April and the warranty doesn't expire until the end of February. Their were several components I had repaired or replaced under the manufacturer's warranty which saved me a substantial amount of money....

o The tilt/telescope mechanism would squeak. I thought it needed to
be lubricated. In the end, the entire mechanism needed to be replaced.

o Had the dealer adjust the headlights. They were aimed to low for my taste.
According to them, one of the headlights had trouble maintaining the new
adjustment. As a result, they replaced the entire assembly under warranty.

o The lettering on the Start/Stop button had deteriorated.
It was replaced under warranty. (The only issue here is the 2006 models
have the orange lighting, but you can only get them in the bluish color used
in current models. It really isn't that noticeable in my opinion.)

o The graphics for the homelink buttons on the rear view mirror was deteriorated.
This issue was mentioned in a TSB (which I found on infinitihelp.com). The
buttons on the mirror were replaced without charge.

o When refueling, the pump would constantly cutoff before the tank was full.
Again, I found a TSB on this site and the problem was corrected under warranty.

o The front driver's seat would move slightly, but noticeably when braking/accel...
Another TSB exists for it. But, in my case they had to replace the entire seat
assembly - again, this was done at no cost to me.

o Lastly, one of the front fog lamps was loose. It turns out the bracket was
broken. It may have been damaged by a former owner/driver. It wasn't
repaired under warranty, but the dealership replaced it at no charge to me.

I also got the vehicles service history and had them perform a used vehicle inspection. A lot of the fluids needed to be changed which I had the dealer perform, as well as, routine service items needed for the cars mileage since it didn't appear to have had been done in the past. It was expensive, but I just wanted the piece of mind in knowing it had been done properly. Next time around - I'll probably take it to a Nissan shop.

Anyway, as in the earlier post - have the warranty and TSB stuff checked out as soon as you can. I know it saved me a few thousand dollars in parts and labor. Hopefully, you know your vehicles in-service date. If not, an Infiniti dealer should be able to provide it to you.

Oh - I just got something in the mail alerting me to a problem some vehicles are experiencing where the radiator fan or sensor (I don't remember the details) malfunctions and causes the vehicle to operate in Fail-Safe mode. They've extended the warranty on this component.

I hope this helps.

I took delivery of mine in April. I got the car's service history from my local Infiniti dealership (got the car from CarMax). It was a former lease and used as a loaner vehicle for a little while, so their was some informatin for me to determine.

Default Response...

Very good information, Orlanzo. I just noticed that my seat is also slightly moving while breaking and accelerating. I will be contacting the dealership today as well before my warranty expires within the next week or so. Couple of questions for you.

· What is the tilt/telescope mechanism you speak of?
· What do you mean when you say TSB? For example my home link button is also deteriorated as well. I would like to bring this to the dealership’s attention once I take the car in for the seat repair, but not sure what you mean when you say you found a TSB on this?
Thanks,

George

The Tilt/Telescope mechanism relates to the motor assembly that controls the tilt and telescope operations of the steering wheel. You'll notice the controls on the left side of the steering column. It's a small stub lever that can move up/down and fore/aft.

Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) are service notices/alerts the manufactures provide to their service networks. All of them aren't critical - some may be informational by providing additional or correct exisiting diagnostic procedures, etc. InfinitiHelp.com has a section within it's KnowledgeBase devoted to them. The specific TSBs with respect to the paint on the HomeLink buttons and seat travel are:

ITB08-026 : INFINITI; HOMELINK® INSIDE MIRROR BUTTONS’
PAINT PEELING / FADING / CHIPPED
One or more of the Homelink® inside mirror buttons’ paint has faded, peeled, or chipped

ITB07-029 :
2006-2007 INFINITI M; DRIVER SEAT BOTTOM OR SEATBACK MAKES NOISE OR MOVES
When accelerating, stopping, or turning, the driver seat bottom and/or seatback
• Makes noise (clicking, creaking, or clunking)
and/or
• Moves (rocks/moves back and forth)

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions regarding the information I've provided.

I'm glad I was able to help. It's been a good car thus far despite the issues I mentioned earlier. I only wish it had better IPOD integration and electrochromatic side view mirrors. It looks like I'll be picking up a 2010 model in 2014 :-) (I've never bought a car off the lot and don't see a reason to break the trend. I'll let someone else handle the initial depreciation.)

I'm a fan of the Umbria Gray. I like it much better than the silver I've been seeing lately. Let me know how the window tinting goes. I've been thinking about doing the same thing to mine too :-)
