Angry Frustrated with Infiniti Navigator "safety" feature!

Does anyone out there know of any possible way to over-ride the ridiculous safety feature Infiniti navigation system uses (everything freezes when rolling more than 2mph).

I find this sort of forced safety to be silly and probably puts us more at risk. First of all if we can operate all of the dozens of other controls while driving - why is it necessary to impose this for the touch screen? Does forcing the driver to pull over (possibly on the shoulder of a busy highway) really make this safer?

How many Infiniti drivers getting rear-ended because they were trying to quickly key in a change of route after pulling over or possibly at a light, before the geniuses that put this control in allow us the option of turning it off>!!!

Frustrated - and looking for hacks to get by this ridiculous control.!

Agree annoying on my G35 coupe as well. Mine though will let me choose last 5 previous destinations while driving. Think in my address book as well.

I somewhat understand their reasoning, but always thought a nice feature would be if a passenger was in pass seat (sensor already there for pass airbag function), why not unlock that system. Passenger can safely input while driver concentrates on the road. My NAVI joy stick is not user friendly even stopped trying to select then enter each number/letter then scroll for which city at that point (sometimes over 50 choices).

Sorry, I know of no hacks to over-ride that factory safety feature. Too much liability for a company to produce that is my logic why. There's a module that will by-pass the start-up screen, but that's about it concerning NAVI programing while in motion I know of.

There is a way to bypass the safety system in pre-09 models by installing an inline switch for the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) wire to trick the GPS that the car is not moving. It's easy to do on the pre-08's.

I don't know if the mod will work on your 09, but I would think that it would if you can find the VSS wire at the navi DVD player.

Default Reasoning for Navi control lockup while moving...

Great idea (pass seat sensor over-ride) - how do we get this into Infiniti's suggestion box?!

Also - in terms of 'understanding the reasoning' can this really be a "liability issue" ?? given the add-on navi systems that get around this with a simple "warning note" when you turn it on... works for Garmin and Tom Tom so why not for Infiniti?.

Picture this all-to-common scenario: You're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic due to an accident ahead (or whatever) - crawling at 10-15 mph and no way to select an alternate route/destination without stopping for about 30 seconds and putting up with the people behind honking away (risking a rear-ender). Seriously - what is the safety risk if you just do this cautiously (as you would do for almost any control (change radio channel, adjust temp etc) on your dash while in traffic.

Would like to find a way to get this comment in to Infiniti - maybe it can be accommodated in a future nav system patch/update?

Frustrated but Cautious Driver.

You've still sparked my curiosity on a work-around.

Thinking deeper on what the NAVI looks for in activating/deactivating that safety feature, it looks for a signal from the speed sensor is my logical guess. There's the area of a possible hack if you're a electronic engineer, of which I'm not.

I release myself from any liability of above mentioned. Must CYA these days.

Bear in mind that what Gilley posted is for the 03-08 FX. The 09 will likely be a little different and may require a little more research through the service manuals.

Correct. You should be able to find the location of the VSS wire in the 09 service manual.
