Default G35 Humming Noise

Can anyone tell me what would be causing a humming noise from the front end? The noise is only heard when steerring wheel is slightly turned to the right. When the steering is dead center or sligthly turned to the left the humming noise is gone. I jsut had the 4 tires replaced and front end aligned.

Do you only hear it when the vehicle is moving? Is it only above certain speeds? Do you notice a corresponding vibration in the steering wheel? Does your car have AWD? Does the noise go away if you gently apply the brakes? Does the noise change based on vehicle speed or engine speed?

If you only hear the noise when moving and it changes with vehicle speed, I would suspect a wheel bearing issue. Since you only hear it when the steering wheel is turned to the right, I would suspect a left front wheel bearing.

Answering the other questions though would help zero in on the likely culprit better though.

I have a G35X AWD. I hear the noise when vehicle is moving at approx 25 mph or higher. There is no vibration in the steering wheel. The noise goes away when I stop and the noise is based on the vehicle speed.

Sounds like it's probably a wheel bearing, but you might first try moving wheels/tires around (make sure they are all the same size and direction arrows, as appropriate, are observed) to see if the origin of the noise seems to move with the wheel location. While you have the wheels off, closely inspect the brake system and look for any debris that may be rubbing against the tire or wheel. Also inspect the CV joint boots for the axles.

If there's nothing rubbing, the brakes are good, CV joint boots are good, and the noise remains the same with the tire relocation, you probably have a wheel bearing issue as mention in my prior post.

If the noise is on your 07 sedan, have the dealer check out the wheel bearing under warranty. I'm not sure if the powertrain warranty on the 04 sedan, if still in effect, would cover wheel bearings up front.

Thanks for the Reply. The information provided all is very helpful. The problem seems to be poitning to the bearing on the front left.

Yep I'd suspect a wheel beraing (I had my rot one replaced last week). Now mine is noise free. BTW it had 152,000 miles on that bearing

I was going to mention a CVC joint as a possibility, being it's a G35X. When those are really bad, they'll start clicking when you turn too.
