Default Model Number decoding...

VIN decoding is very helpful, but the plate in the engine compartment also has the Model Number (no not G35) that is at least as long as the VIN.
I believe it has all the options that are included for the specific vehicle.

If anyone knows how to decode this, I would appreciate it.

That page has the VIN & Engine numbers. I am looking for a legend for the MODEL number.

For example, my model number (as on the plate in the engine compartment) is:

"GLJALFMV35EUA272_ _ " (The dashes are on the plate...)

Underneath that is the Color/Trim Code: WV2G (Diamond Graphite/Aluminum, Graphite Leather)

Under that, the number code for transmission (Auto or MT).

I can't believe I'm the only one who wondered about this.... :)

Excellent! The only strange thing is the 'N" vs. "M" for 5AT.

I had always thought there were codes (maybe not on the car?) for optional factory installed systems.

I notice the example shows rear steering option (if equipped), but not LSD.
And then there is the 272 at the end of my model number, likely a code for something else.

Definitely on the right track!

thanks!
