Default Need Help with 2004 qx56!!

Hi all...I have an 04 qx56 and my warranty expired last year...last month i was on my way to work and all of a sudden it started cutting out on me..i mean everything..all the gauges dropped and started flipping out and the car started sputtering on me...it went on for a few seconds and then everything went back to normal...two days later it did the same thing while i was exiting a parking lot..got it going, parked and it never started again...i've been gone on business for the past month so i'm finally getting to fix it...i'm thinking its the fuel pump..any suggestions? i would like to try to do it myself to save some cash, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! thanks!

Robert

Any chance you got some bad gas? I mean petrol, not the taco bell version... I'd drain the tank, change the fuel filter, and put in a few gallons of premium.

check and make sure your battery and alternator are working and make sure the connection on the terminals are clean and have good contact.(autozone or advance auto can check battery and alternator free of charge). do u notice anylights taht are illuminated when this happens or any lights that glow when driving? have add or installed anything recently? and like above poster mentioned has the car been parked for a long time and then u started driving, sometimes if gas stays still for long time it gells up and can clog the injectors. do u have a check engine light on by any chance?(autoparts like autozone or advance auto can also scan for codes)

if u ever leave your car not running for long periods of time get some solution at auto parts store, i think its called fuel stabalizer which would help the fuel form gelling up.here is a link to one http://www.autozone.com/selectedZip,.../selectZip.htm

alternator and battery are good. The lights and gauges all flickered when the car was sputtering...on when there was gas/off when it would shut off, repeatedly...the car wasn't parked for a long time when this happened...its only been parked since it happened because i wasnt around to fix it. i think its the fuel pump because when i stepped on the accelorator, it would bog and/or nothing would happen. Anybody know how to change the fuel pump? I tried downloading the service manual but couldn't.

Unfortunatley we don't have any loose sections of the service manuals for the QX56. You can subscribe to the forum for $10 and download the full 2004 service manual if you'd like. You can subscribe here:

http://x.infinitihelp.com/forum/payments

Full service manual available here:

http://x.infinitihelp.com/forum/show...lb+replacement

Or you can request a specific section of the service mnual here and Infinitiexpert will do his best to make it available:

Have you looked at the side terminals on the positive side of the battery terminal? Just check an make sure they are locked into place and not loose. (wiggle test)
Bad gas or any fuel problems are going to make your dash gauges flicker.
Sounds like an elecrtical loose connection.

Not to insult your intelligence, but are you sure that the battery terminals are tight? and free of corrosion? A lot of times its easy to skip over the easy and obvious and move straight to the complicated. In the process, we skip over the real problem. Haha. I have too many stories of this.
I would suggest subscribing and dowloading all the service manuals and loose sections we have available here. It will help if you want to pull the fuel pump and test it. You can get the pump tested at autozone, etc. for free b/f you dump 200 plus on a new one. Also, check the fuses to the pump and make sure it is good as well.
Good luck and let us know what you end up doing. Just make sure to eliminate all the easy and simple possiblities b/f diving into the complex possibilities.

I meant to say "Bad gas or any fuel problems are NOT going to make your dash gauges flicker."
