Default Need help with sunshade for '01 I30, please.

The rear sunshade on my '01 I30 is not working correctly. I have the service bulletin, but I would like to know if anybody else has seen this problem and could advise on a tricks or tips to make the fix easier and smoother. PROBLEM: The sunshade will go up automatically when the button is pushed; however, the passenger side only raises to about 75% of the correct length while the driver's side raises 100%. The unit sticks in place and will only lower when I manually push down on the unit while someone pushes the down button. Thanx.

Unfortunately I don't, and removing the shade to fix it is not easy at all. But it is definitely cheaper than buy the $750 shade.

Thanx for getting back. I will start taking it apart step-by-step, and it may take weeks, but I'll get 'er done. I live in Arizona and have good tint, so there's no hurry, and I'm not about to take it to a dealer!!! Every time I have in the past, it has been a bad experience - see my post on Glendale Infiniti. I have also had big problems with Infiniti of Scottsdale, where I bought the car. I'll be sure to post the results when I get this sunshade problem fixed.

Thanx for responding jebhott. Sorry, didn't quite understand the the "switch start"?? Do you mean the up/down switch might be bad, or is the timing off in the motor ? My problem is that the passenger side arm is binding causing the sunshade to extend only about 75% on that side while the driver's side is fine.

Talking Finally fixed the rear sunshade!

The fix for my sunshade problem was so easy, it's almost embarrasing. I just followed the first step in the sunshade service bulletin ITB00-039, which is to push down on the parcel shelf hold-down clips. I did give it an extra wack for effect, maybe that's what did it. Anyway, something was binding on the pasenger's side, but it ain't now - working fine! Thanx for the help guys.

Yes, that's about what the dealer wants for an entire new unit! Labor, of course, is extra at the following rate: 3.5 hrs @ $98.00 per hour = $343.00. I just subscribed here for $10.00, downloaded and read the service manual, and fixed my rear sunshade in less time than it takes to guzzle a beer! Subscribing to this site is the best darn thing I've done lately!! Here is a little fact that an Infiniti service guy told me: return service at Infiniti dealerships is less than 5%. I wonder why.............see above.
