I've read all the previous threads but I would like your opinion:
My 2009 G37S has 5500 kms or 3300 miles and is due for the first oil change next week. I've been checking the oil level since I started driving the car and noticed the level dropping steadily as I racked up the miles. The oil level now sits at just above Low; nothing alarming considering it's due an oil change, but still startling for a new car. I called the dealer and asked what kind of oil should I top it up with and the Service guy advised me not to top it up as long as it was above Low, so that they could see the level next week. That way, he explained, if there was an issue they could start the warranty process. He also mentioned that the factory puts in Nissan Ester oil both for the break-in and just before delivery. At the first oil change, he said, they'll put in regular 5-30. My question is: Should I go synthetic, semi-synth or regular? Thanks. Dan |

Let the dealer do the oil consumption check on the car first.

Hi Gilley,
Is it normal for the G37S to burn this much oil or do you think it's because it's a bit like the break-in oil? |

Very common problem with the 298 hp VQ35DE's. VQ37VHR's are not supposed to have that issue.
Let the dealer document, test and go with their recommendations on oil....for now.

The oil level on my G37x was sitting between mid to low after the first six weeks. I topped it up right away and it has been full without any drop. The car may have been delivered with low oil.
It has over 7500km with its first oil change. There has been virtually no oil consumption. There is nothing to worry about. |
