Noise from Engine Compartment - Chirping Sound
Hello all. I wanted to give all of you some heads up on a pain in the rear situation - I have a 2007 QX56 that was giving off some high pitched chirping noise from the engine compartment. The noise was intermittent and audible almost every single time the engine was started and running at low MPH and the sound actually reminds me of crickets chirping! I took to the dealer for warrany repair, fortunately it's still covered for another 9k miles. First time, no one heard the noise. Second time, service man heard the noise and brought over a mechanic whom also heard this noise and he tought it could be a power steering pump going bad - power steering pump replaced and noise is still audible. Then, I found this god-sent web page that is infinitihelp.com and a service bullitin
ITB08-027 regarding drive belt squeak noise. I printed this out and brought with me a fourth time to the dealer due to a bad battery and to try to get rid of this nosie. A week later, the engine belt and belt tensioner were replaced, and pully's were checked for alignment and still the noise persisted! Finally, it was deemed that the alternator was the root cause of the engine noise chirping sound - new alternator = no more noise. I want to give props to Joey for seing this issue through on my vehicle - it wasnt easy on both of us but he finally got that engine noise taken care of and a satisfied customer.
