Default Parking sensors are ineffective for objects in the middle

The rear parking sensors on my 09 fx35 only detect objects that are at the corners. I backed straight into a metal pipe that was dead centre to the rear bumper and the sensors didnt make a sound. There is a rear camera but i was relying on the rear outer view mirrors. Has any one installed extra sensors at the rear? If so how?

I haven't seen anyone installing extra rear sensors, it possible that the center sensor of your FX are not working correctly, did you tested after the incident?

It seems that the solution is already in place with the back up camera. That would be better than a sensor I would think.
