I got in my car this evening and I found this spring on the driver's side of my 2003 G35 Sedan beneath the brake pedal.
![]() Couple of questions: Where did it come from (steering column, brake, accelerator, parking brake, driver's seat)? Can I fix it myself? Is it safe to drive before it is fixed (if I can't fix it myself)? Thanks for your help! |

Welcome to the forum!
The part is a spring. Oh, I guess you want to know where it came from. Well, I would guess the parking brake. Do you use the parking brake regularly? If so, does it retract like usual? How about the brake pedal, does it feel normal? The next question would be if the spring is, or has been, broken. The end near your wrist in the photo looks unusual. I would expect both hooks to look similar. Maybe someone bent the one end after it broke rather than replacing it. That's not easy to do on springs without deforming a few coils, but it is possible. If that's the case, it might be slightly short and apply too much force on whatever it hooks too when fully extended. You might look for a couple of hooks that don't have anything hooked to them or that are bent. -Rod |
