I use the Passport 8500 (without GPS), works great for radar and laser.
Word of caution to all users: You're aware that Infiniti uses a laser system for the advanced cruise control and predictive brakes. Ford has released their version of this technology in the new Taurus but using radar rather than laser. I've just come back from a 3500 kms trip (Calgary-Seattle-Vancouver-Calgary) and my detector was going off a lot for no apparent reason. I usually ignore X-band alarms but these were K-band alerts which I took seriously and slammed on the brakes.
I'm starting to wonder if Ford is using K-band for their cruise control. Does anyone knows?

Valentine 1 is the only real deal. Trouble is though, any cops still use radar? Around where I am all I see is laser, and I keep reading tose detectors do a great job of going off just as you've been clocked (not before).

Police still use radar when they're driving, the laser has to be aimed. If they're aiming the laser at you and you're speeding you're caught..you've got 1/10 of a second to react when the laser warning goes off. It's more for detecting laser when they're getting someone in front of you.
Only problem is the laser is such a narrow beam that it's hard for the detector to pick up unless you're on a straight road and you probably won't get a full warning...a couple of chirps and a bar or two on the led.

I still find my radar detectors to be useful. A lot of police here still use rolling and stationary radar. Even if I'm not speeding much, I like to know when the police are around looking for me. But detectors are all but useless with laser.

I have a cobra XRS9960G. Saved me a lot of speeding fines. My average speed on highway is usually 170 km/h so the radar detector worth the money for me.

I am a long time user of radar detectors. I have been using a Valentine V1 for 4 years now and had a 8500 before and both are quality units. I do however give the edge to the V1. I have mine in a stealth mode and also use the concealed remote display in my FX35
