I have replaced the rear shocks in our 98-QX4, but it keeps bottoming out when I have someone in the back seat of just simply going over speed bumps etc. Does anyone know where you can get some aftermarket rear coil springs? Or would them air bags that fit into the coils work ok?

I haven't seen any aftermarket springs claiming that are stiffer than the regular, but is possible that the spring on your QX4 are just weak. Did you checked you QX4 for damage or worn out rear suspension components bushings?

this QX4 was owned by my father in law since new, and he passed away 1 year ago so now it's my wife car. it has never pulled a trailer or carried any kind of a load except for normal stuff like food bags or the odd house hold item, but nothing bigger or heavier than a 20" old style TV. It has never been in an accident, and he had it serviced at the dealer all the time. Since I got it I have replaced the front and rear shocks, plus replaced the tire/rims.

last week I went around to the dealer and they wanted $212 per spring, plus about 1-1/2 hour labour. I then went to a few other shops and they couldn't find any replacement springs and said they would phone me when they found something and I haven't heard back from them as of yet. Yesterday I also looked into the air spring-1000 which fits up inside the coil and the only dealer in town said he would also phone me back when he received more information. needless to say I'm still waiting for his call. So with that I decided to got to our pick and pull auto wrecking yard and they just happened to have one 1998 nissan pathfinder so I have pulled out it's rear springs so hopefully later this week I will attempt to put them into the QX4. hope this works?
Oh I just noticed I put this topic into the QX56 by mistake when it should have gone into the QX4. Sorry! Last edited by 3144; 11-18-2009 at 02:39 PM. Reason: put into wrong field |

I doubt that your original springs have sagged based on normal usage. What kind of rear shocks did you replace them with? Shameless plug here.....if you're interested I have a pair of practically brand new KYB rear shocks here for cheap, take a look >>> http://x.infinitihelp.com/forum/show...-qx4-6020.html They're heavy duty shocks that can be used for heavy loads and hauling if you choose.

Since your QX4 is over 10 years old the springs may have sagged off a little just like we all sag as we get older. The springs are available over at Infinitipartsusa.com for $108 each. I would order them and get a local shop to install. Here is the part:

I have changed the rear springs to the pathfinder coils I pulled out of the pick-n-pull auto wreckers. I measured the thickness and the infinity was around .5 and the pathfinders were around .52 or .53 they were the same height and everything else appeared to be the same. It raised the back of the infinity about 1 or 1-1/2" and so far they appear to have fixed the problem. I let the wife drive it to work this morning. On the weekend I'll try to carry some weight to further test things.

Nice solution. It makes sense that the QX4 has a softer suspension then the pathfinder.
