Default Remote Starter Woes

Has anyone had any luck with the remote starter for the G35x? I had one installed, but due to nonfunctioning safety issues, I had it removed after several months.

Which safety issues did you encounter?

Default Remote Starter Woes

There was no auto shut off once the car started, on other remotes the engine will stop if you step on the brake without inserting the key, & turning the ignition on. I know that this wouldn't be the case with the G35's keyless start, but there were no other safety features enabled on my car. Even the doors were unlocked. Once started, anyone could get in & drive off.

Also several times the engine started when I had unlocked the doors. I pressed the unlock button on the door handle 3 times, & it started without using the keyless remote itself. Once, early on, in an effort to figure out exactly what caused it to start by itself, I was sitting in the car, & I reached out the window & pressed the door handle's unlock button & the damn thing started. Apparently I had pressed it twice before getting in, & the last time constituted the third press.

My son (27 yrs) came home for a visit, went to Boston with the car & had something similar happen. This all might be due to a faulty install by a shop used by the dealer, but even though I would like to have the remote, it's not worth the inherent dangers.

On the remote start systems I've installed, usually many of the options can be configured through either the remote and ignition key or via the ignition key and the valet/bypass switch. I hadn't thought about it before, but it would be a bit different I suppose with the keyless ignition, although the same signals are still available as with a keyed system, just need to be accessed from a different component.

I've also used some add-on remote start systems that are intended to add remote start capability to existing alarms with a 3rd channel output OR with just an existing keyless entry system. In the case of a keyless system, the remote start add-on can be configured to enable the start by a sequence of lock/unlock presses of the key fob. Since the button on our doors functions like a key fob, that may be what is happening in your situation.

I agree with you that this was probably due to an "economy" install by a shop.

I'm getting my remote starter installed next week on my 2008 G35x. I chose to use the original key fab and not the extra remote. The installer told me that pressing the lock button twice will start the car. So the doors will be locked when it is started.

Default Please advise new owner about remote starter

I just bought a 2008 M35x and would like a remote starter installed ...it gets very very cold up here in the north country.

- is there an installation that will work with the "keyless entry" / intelligent key system (push button starter)?

- how do i find an installer?

- are there negative consequences to this?

thanks

larry

I think your best bet would be to call around your local area and ask some questions. Once you have found a few local car electronics places you can then check with the BBB to see what their reputations are like. I would try to stick to places that specialize in car audio and electronics rather than places that carry mostly home audio/video.

Oh, and if you post up roughly where you are located someone might be able to reccommend a place.

agree with ilovemyfx, make sure u take to someone who knows what they are doing. its a pain if u have it wired wrong and will end up having issues with your car. so take t to a specialist and also see if they offer anykind of warranty

I had mine installed in my 2005 G35x for about a year now and it works like a charm. Being in Alaska its a need! And it is wonderful. I have the keyless go and I didnt even have to give the guys my keys. They have a module they put in to mimic the keyless keyfob. But it has the brake pedal kill switch and runs for your choice of 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes and 30 minutes. I love it. And with this system its mostly plug and play.
