According to a local garage my service engine soon light indicates replacing the knock sensor. He said he would need the car for two days and the cost would exceed $1,000. I declined the service to get other
opinions. Is this cost reasonable? Is replacement necessary since the car runs fine. I have a 1997 Q45 with 101,000 miles |

Welcome to Infintihelp.com forums!!
The knock sensor will not trigger the light, it may store a code in the ECM, but will not make the engine light top come 'ON'. If you have the light 'ON' you may have another problem. The price to do the knock sensor is not reasonable, I think you can get a better deal some where else. The job takes around 4-5 hours and the part is around $200. So if the shop has an hourly rate of around $75 you shouldn't pay more than $600. Have you notice that sometimes the car is a bit sluggish when takes off from a stop? If you have that problem is due to the knock sensor and you have to replaced. If you haven't notice any problems, then do not replaced the knock sensor. A bad knock sensor will not damage your car at all.
